Every year, Americans send about 1.5 billion cards during the holidays, according to greeting card giant Hallmark. Some of these Christmas cards will be displayed on card racks or card trees to be enjoyed for the few weeks of the holiday festivities, but then the majority of them will go into the trash. Seems a bit wasteful, doesn't it? We spend a lot of money and time buying, writing, addressing and sending these cards, only to have them tossed after a quick glance.
Fortunately, it's getting easier to go green when you shop for your Christmas greeting cards during the holidays. You can still enjoy the tradition of sending and receiving cards, but you can choose more eco-friendly ways to go about it. Nowadays, for instance, you can send electronic greetings cards, completely bypassing the need to cut down trees (although you still have to think about the energy used to run the device used to view the card), or you can choose recycled Christmas cards. Even companies can now find plenty of recycled business holiday cards from which to choose. Companies such as Pear Tree Greetings, Gallery Collection and MyGoodGreetings are just a few of the online merchants offering recycled cards for the Christmas season. And that's good news for all of us.
